The entire morning before the show I was whistling to tunes from Noble Beast, Andrew Bird can produce some contagious whistling melodies that you can’t stop replicating. I won tickets to see Andrew Bird since the tickets were quite pricey (got to love free tickets). The show was quite remarkable mainly because he came fully equipped with the full band

Love is All at Lexington
Well, its weekend again and I thought I’d do more gig catching up, ever so tempted to just dunk it all in one go but I feel like I’m not giving bands any justice, so I’ll just find a midway line and write super short reviews that aren’t really reviews. For this gig I caught Swedish band Love is All live at Lexington, you can never get enough of that swedish techno coffee (not that they’re techno or taste like coffee (well i haven’t actually proved that but whatever).
Imogen Heap Ellipse album listening partae
Tonight I went to listen to Imogen Heap’s upcoming album Ellipse in an impromptu tweetup session at a fancy restaurant, Imogen promised to buy us all drinks (and did) and it was simply amazing. The event was totally packed which resulted in a second listening session (which i attended) that she kindly did for the late folks (well not late, just not early enough).
At the fancy hotel Imogen quickly went round the room and introduced herself as well as apologise for making everyone wait (bless her, it’s not even her fault, just no room). After a few chit chats she began playing tracks from her album and slowly going through each track and giving a brief introduction of how it came to be. She kept her explanations and meanings to the songs to herself so we could have our own interpretations of the songs. The whole event was just blissful, sitting down and listening to her new album for the first time in some nice speakers, the whole event made me smile. Imogen was happy to answer any questions fans wanted to ask as well as do a signing session at the end of the listening party.
I managed to get a hug from her as well as a photo (didn’t come out too well, bit out of focus! not that it matters because you’ll never see it!)
Though I had to wait for over an hour, it was well worth the wait

Field Day part 1
Now I’ve seen loads of other gig photographers do this, they SLOWLY go on a slow rampage on festival photos. I will most likely do that the next few days but for now I was thinking what I’d have up for my 365, it’s quite a hard one to pick I must say but I decided to use this one, mainly because the heart on her cheek was so vibrant and it made me feel like the world is an innocent place (despite how my mind thinks)
Anyway, I saw this couple and found them adorably cute so I took a photo of them (you should totally see the next part of this photo, it’s lulz). I dont think it’d be a good idea to summarise the whole festival with a photo of a band because obviously there were more than one band headlining and whatnot, so I thought I’d put the focus on the crowd. It was ace shooting the crowd, I’m always paranoid they don’t want photos taken, mainly because all my friends avoid my camera like the plague despite them asking for the said photo after they’ve seen what it looks like (and wanting it for their facebook profile photo of all things). So yeah, i took a plunge and went all out ninja’ing shots of the crowd, sometimes they knew I was doing it and were happy to pose, sometimes they had no idea (you get a more natural pose).
I miss outdoor shots, they’re so fun and you can use crazy settings to shoot compared to the bog standard iso3200 shows I goto.
Uhm yeah, field day was pretty amazing, it was my first festival to cover and I had mucho fun
the beginning was a bit annoying since we had to travel in and out to get a photo pass which felt like a game of human pinball at one point where we constantly had to annoy security guards in letting us find where the photo passes were. In the end we found it and discovered that they didn’t have enough passes so they just gave us artist passes for the day, this pretty much meant access all areas since we weren’t really restricted in where we stood and whatnot, it was pretty ace, at some shows they didn’t even care if you sat at the front the entire show (which i did to relax my poor feet). The hospitality area was a bit poop and boring (filled with people who stayed there the entire day because they were too important to actually watch the gig).
The toilets at the VIP area were amazing and the food was pretty good (note i did go to this organic burger tent that made pretty tasty burgers) still doesn’t quite beat that time they had a NANDO’s in a festival (V)
Anyway, that’s enough description text for now, i prefer to write more stories elsewhere…

FLASH! AAAAH!
Some might say it’s a saviour in the photography universe.
Well it’s finally arrived, I feel like I’ve finally completed my camera in making it into a super monster for anything. There’s a few lenses I want here and there (fisheye and a better zoom) but I think i’m pretty set with gear for a while.
I haven’t really thought about how I’m going to use this bad boy, but I guess the idea is for me to span into the whole portrait and studio shots and whatnot so a decent flash is needed. I’ve considered trying flash during a gig to compare but chances are i’ll stick to good old non flash photos for a more natural look (just will suck a bit when i shoot in venues with strong casts of colours)
Uhm.. what else, I used my other broken flash gun to shoot this, I’ve been using the yellow background for all my gear purchases so I thought I’d continue the condition. Really enjoying the flash gun already, twisting the neck is fun and being able to mount the bad boy into the camera with ease is ace. But yeah, will try it out more in the future

Bishop Allen at Bardens Boudoir
Bishop Allen playing a nice cosy gig at Bardens Boudoir, the stage was nice and low and the band were in a grabable distance (not that you would mind).
Au Revoir Simone at Bush Hall
Keyboard smashing, disco making Au Revoir Simone played an awesome sold out show at the Bush Hall. Quite a tantalising set from the 3 beautiful and friendly ladies who just got back from touring Sweden.

Josh Weller and Brooke Parrott
This was quite a mini gig venture since my idea for the evening was to head down to Nando’s for some chicken, but having some free live music before that adds the cherry on top. Me and Anika went to Pure Groove to check out Josh Weller who was doing an instore there, I met up with some Patrick Wolf fans who were at the Selfridges gig, that was ace.
