Tonight I saw Neko Case live at Bush Hall, it was a sold out show for the firey haired country singer songwritter and showcased loads of new tracks from her latest album Middle Cyclone. It was nice and relaxing gig despite being hot and sweaty.
Sky Larkin at Rough Trade East
Just some more gig updates, Sky Larkin did a quick instore at Rough Trade East and I managed to check her out with my gigging buddy Anika. I saw soheresanomelette before the gig and said hi (he recognised me from my trademark “orange” scarf (yup i trademarked both) and we had the briefest of chats (shame ). Sky Larkin were fun (will upload a video of them later) and I enjoyed it muchly. My favourite track is still nonetheless Beeline but it was nice hearing Pica and Fossil, I. I literally bought their album a few days before the gig and really love it. They had a tasty deal where you could buy it in itunes for less than a fiver (win). After that gig we did some bantering and headed off to see Moriarty at the Slaughtered Lamb, a review about that some other time! (Man i need to write a checklist of gigs I need to write about).
Jeffrey Lewis live at Betsey Trotwood
“Jeff Lewis, betsey trostwood in farringdon, friday. £3, tickets at door”
A simple text message sent from Adam which changed my Friday evening from a relaxing zombie killing one, to a secret pub crammed gigging one (and some zombie killing). I was really pumped at the idea of Jeffrey Lewis playing in such an ickle and intimate venue. Once after work I met up with Anika, Adam and Fiona and got all squished up into the most tiny venue I’ve ever seen, in fact you needed to be really tall to really catch anything from the front (mmm nice being tall).
Photolising was impossible but I managed to squeeze through and take this shot. Jeffrey has a new female band member woo. It was like a warm up gig for the Owl Parliament festival which was the day after, and for £3, you can’t go wrong (though I did complain a lot about the painful amount of waiting involved haha). After his gig I unfortunately had to leave since I’ve been feeling really ill since monday and could do with a rest and some mindless zombie killing.
One point five bytes of TERROR
That’s not the hard drive I’m getting btw, but yes! On Friday I ordered myself a lovely 1.5 terrobyte (mmm terror) for my PC. It seems that going to so many gigs can really put a strain on my hard disk, especially when I come home with 4gb of RAW photos. They take up quite a lot of memory so yeah, rather than trying to find something to delete everytime I upload something, I best get myself a meaty new hard disk to solve this problem once and for all. Will be doing some late night blogging to make sure I’m up to date. I’ve realised that it really looks like I haven’t done much due to lack of blogging activity but nope, been gigging like crazy and had no time to write about it. Except loads of updates in a bit!
Alessi’s Ark busking in the bandstand variety
Alessi’s Ark bandstand busking at Arnold Circus, she was a real sweetheart when she was chatting away with us (mainly with Anika mind). I was totally in love with her green coat, it went well with the bandstand (not to mention green is my favourite colour). She played 3 songs, one of them including “The Dog”. The guys from bandstand busking promised to do the song title in pistachio nuts which was fun! During the song there was a dog barking in the background which she found funny.
Before she left she gave me and Anika hugz which added the extra cuteness. This shot was taken in close proximity and I had my 70-200mm lens armed, I wanted to try out how close up the photo would be so I tried shooting in 200mm. Man it was close and tasty, I twiddled with it a bit and boom, portraity shot.

Owl Parliament Festival, 9 photos
Right, this day was all kinds of epic, I still haven’t had time to rest (in dire need of it from all this gigging) so here’s 9 photos from the gig. I’ve mainly uploaded the last half of the show but fear not, the rest will come sooner or later.
Ra Ra Riot live at Kings College…. CELLO!
Last night I saw New York indie band Ra Ra Riots play live at Kings College, it was filled with drama, upbeat music and the random screams of the words “CELLO” and “VIOLIN” that still makes me giggles like a prepubescent school girl. I guess when you haven’t a clue of the band members, you just start shouting the instrument they’re playing to simplify things.
Laura Marling play secret Rough Trade gig
After seeing Choir of Young Believers, me and Anika managed to catch Laura Marling play her special secret gig at Rough Trade East where she played 3 new tracks for us to enjoy. Anika noted that she was wearing the same top again when she played at Cargo hehe.
