Sushi, 3D Dumbledore and We are Physics!

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Today was quite a disturbingly hectic day, so many things arranged and plan in the last minute. Kazzie spoke to me on msn and asked me if I wanted to go out and have Yo Sushi! with her and Stu. I originally was going to decline the offer since I was pretty tired from Regina Spektor gig and all, thought since Michelle was also inviting me to see We Are Physics at the buffalo bar as well I decided I might as well make the day of it and have a proper day out again.

Casino Royale and Nandos

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

Casino RoyaleToday I managed to meet up with Jason and Rachel to see Casino Royale and eat at Nandos. I managed to arrive at Odeon Cinema at 2:20 haha, slightly late but I got there anyway. I missed seeing them two, last time was god knows…

We got our tickets and bought some pop corn / drinks, jason bought the stuff, I told him I’ll buy him Nandos and everything. Me and Rachel shared a large sweet popcorn. I’ve noticed that the different in sizes were SO small. I poured a medium sized popcorn into a large pop corn box, turns out there was only room for a little bit more.

Anyway, on with the show, Was slightly glad that we were a bit late for the film. It was FILLED with ads and trailers, they really know how to sell stuff. Anyway back to the film, here’s a quick synopsis stolen from imdb about Casino Royale

Casino Royale introduces James Bond before he holds his license to kill. But Bond is no less dangerous, and with two professional assassinations in quick succession, he is elevated to ’00′ status. Bond’s first 007 mission takes him to Madagascar where he is to spy on a terrorist, Mollaka. Not everything goes to plan and Bond decides to investigate, independently of MI6, in order to track down the rest of the terrorist cell. Following a lead to the Bahamas, he encounters Dimitrios and his girlfriend, Solange. He learns that Dimitrios is involved with Le Chiffre, banker to the world’s terrorist organizations. Secret Service intelligence reveals that Le Chiffre is planning to raise money in a high-stakes poker game in Montenegro at Le Casino Royale. MI6 assigns 007 to play against him, knowing that if Le Chiffre loses, it will destroy his organization. ‘M’ places Bond under the watchful eye of the beguiling Vesper Lynd. At first skeptical of what value Vesper can provide, Bond’s interest in her deepens as they brave danger together and even torture at the hands of Le Chiffre. In Montenegro, Bond allies himself with Mathis MI6′s local field agent, and Felix Leiter who is representing the interests of the CIA. The marathon game proceeds with dirty tricks and violence, raising the stakes beyond blood money and reaching a terrifying climax.

This film was made by the guy who did Goldeneye, which was a proper classic so this bond film was definitely worth watching.

One of the first things I noticed in Casino Royale was when the guy opened his drawers at the first scenes, and BAM! A SONY WALKMAN!! It looked so out of place. Instantly I saw a trend going on, Sony REALLY went crazy on the product placements! Throughout the film I saw the following products that they tried selling: 3 types of Sony Erricson phones, Omega watch, Ford car, Sony Vaio Laptops, Sony Cybershot Camera, Prada Sunglasses (rachel mentioned them to me), Virgin planes (complete with Richard Branson), Aston martins, DBS, Rolex (just the name), Channel and Evening Standard.

The film itself was very good, it was done very nicely but was perhaps let down by the product placement, its really hard to treat the film seriously when you are so aware that the film is trying to sell countless products to you. The phones in particular, probably because its one of the things you COULD buy, rather then an Omega watch.

I’d give the film an 7 out of 10, would have been an 8 if it didnt have so many product placements. Everything was done nicely, the main villain looked like someone from Franz Ferdinand haha.
After a nice movie, we went straight to Nandos for some greasy hot chicken action, I ordered my usual :) . Jason bought a medium quarter chicken and Rachel got some random pita bread chicken. Both medium I think haha, they should try hot, its awesome.

I took a nice photo of them (and my food haha). The camera went nuts on the ISO so its grainy as ever, hopefully it wont be the case when I invest myself in a Canon 400d haha.
Jason and Rachel at nandos
and my food haha, the chicken is nice and dry :)

After a nice meal, I ordered some additional ExTRA hot wings, they were hotter then the ones at Wembley. We had a nice long chat, was awesome :)

Afterwards I went back home and enjoyed the rest of the evening lounging about

The Devil Wears Primark

…yes she does. Tonight I watched a film with B. A film about a girl who sold herself out and then realised she sold herself out. I think that was the whole story summarised in one line. But yeah, we went to the cinema with some nice Butterkist Toffee popcorn and a magnum icecream, we were going to watch Children of Men but it was too much to travel and everything so we settled for The Devil Wears Prada.

The film had Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep and the film went on and on about selling yourself for a company. I only like Anne Hathaway because she did the voice for Haru in the Cat returns, otherwise she is slightly annoying. The film wasnt deep at all, the whole flim was predictable and the only thing that kept me going was the beautiful Apple macs haha, they had 30inch cinema display monitors and the typical wireless mighty mouse and keyboard. It made me want to run off to Apple center and buy an apple keyboard and mouse (think i get student discounts with that too!!).

Devil Wears Prada
Btw, above is the first few minutes of her after she’s sold herself out :)

So yeah, film was a bit shabby but at least i got to spend time with B. I hardly spend time with her and all. She has work the next day (first day at work and all too). Ah well

Oldboy
Really good film, very heavy. Vengence films at its best.
Quick synopsis

Oh Dae-Su, a young drunk businessman, is kidnapped off the streets of Soeul one rainy evening and locked in a crummy hotel room, with only a television for company. Each day he is fed the same fried dumplings, each day he tries to work out who would have done this to him and each day he learns nothing – except from the television. He watches as world events pass him by and how his wife is murdered and he becomes prime suspect in the investigation. Each day – more dumplings and no answers.

Then suddenly, after fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is inexplicably released. Who imprisoned him? Why did they imprison him? What will Oh Dea-Su do to them when he finds them? If he finds them?

Was one scene where the uh uh, was a wee bit long, B.’s mum didnt want B. to see too much of that hehe.

Bless her :) , she had a hard time with the company that sells it though hehe. Amazon can be a bit misleading in their website though with the whole new and old thingy on their item pages. Makes you think that place is where you buy stuff from amazon.

We had a lovely time, bought her some roses, a book, a kinder egg and some food. She wasn’t feeling too good about her music teacher being disappointed about her in her mocks. Hopefully she feels a bit better now :) Roses should always work anyhow hehe. The book I bought her was “Return of the Bunny Suicides ”
Bunny Suicides
Very fun book, especially when Hugh Grant thinks its one of his “most important books of the year” hehe. Looks like he reads alot of deep and meaningful books :)
Writing blogs = fun :) might make it all public, the content is pretty clean and doesnt have anything too personal….does it B.?
