Not much gigging this month, today however I was able to spend the second holiday relaxing some more and then checking out the Acorn play live at Brixton Windmill, it was quite an intimate show with the band admitting that they were more nervous playing in front of us than a big crowd at say Wembley Arena.
I managed to meet up with Anika for a quick pre gig nando’s (nom nom), I got caught up a bit playing Left4Dead so arrived slightly late, anyway the meal was good and then we went walkies up the venue (with me complaining a lot about how much walking is involved).
First act was Arthur Delaney, he played with an acoustic guitar. His music was very uptempo, not much else to say about him.
The next band, Babel were very good. They had a cellist (mmm). Right near the end the lead singer and guitarist gave me his acoustic guitar and for a few moments I was strumming a long to them with his guitar whilst he’s in the crowd singing intently. I originally started off with the E chord but I got instructed to just play around with 2nd frets and whatnot, it was all weird with the capo business and I wasn’t paying much attention to see what the other folks were playing hehe. But yeah, fun band.
Next up were the Acorn, they were all nervous playing an intimate show even though they’ll be touring with Elbow at Wembley Arena (well already have been since this is in the future!) They were fun and friendly, there were a lot of banter back and fourth and they welcomed friendly heckling as well as random screams and shouts that would make them giggling or laugh during or inbetween songs. I have a video of them but I’ll upload that at another point.
The gig was overall awesome but they did end pretty late meaning I had to catch a pretty late tube back home *sniff*
