Several weeks ago I was feeling quite down, I then decided that I no longer want to stay indoors and sob so I decided to embark on a crazy mission/project of going to at least one gig per week till the end of the year, mainly to keep my mind busy and entertained. Using the trusty last.fm site I was recommended to loads of small gigs of bands that I like and I promptly booked them all (they were around £10-15 each so that was good), tickets come through the letter box like treacle and now I’ve successfully got myself booked up for the rest of the year, each gig hopefully bringing you loads of lovely photos to enjoy (smuggling is part of the fun!). So yeah, hope you enjoy, this week I’ve doing 4 gigs so that will be fun (and tiring as hell!).
Above is just a sample of tickets to gigs I’ve previously been to or am going to, couldn’t fit them all in and didn’t want to tell you ALL the gigs I’m going to (but you can find out pretty easily if you looked hard enough). This was one of the main reaasons why I bought good old eve and my new lens.
The project will be very tiring as I need to mix all of it with work, but it will hopefully be good for my stamina (and bad for my ears). This all started around September (Shout out Louds gig was the first) and I definitely feel the strain of going to a lot of gigs, but I don’t regret it one bit (even though I moan about how tired I get sleeping at 4am in the morning). It’s nice to be smothered in music! I’m very happy to be living in London and want to embrace that fact by abusing it’s high density of gigs available. If you’re going to any of the gigs feel free to give me a shout or email and I’m happy to meet up with you (granted I might abandon you for photos haha).
The plan is to go alone most of the time but a few gigs I’ll be going with friends, reason being is to avoid having to find a person to accompany with EVERY gig (ever arranged a gig with more than one person? you’ll know what i mean). I’m usually bad company anyway, always off for the sake of photolising, there’s not much to talk about in a venue either and you need to strain your voice in order to talk to the other person so yeah, not worrying about who I’m going. This will hopefully make me more independent to and capable of finding entertainment when I feel like it. Having said that I won’t be antisocial, I’m already meeting new people along the way and I’m more than happy to talk to people (if they seem friendly enough) if I’m in the mood.
Hope you enjoy this adventure / project as much as I do and I’m sure I’ll be attending a gig that you like. If you haven’t heard of the bands, do feel free to listen to them and buy their albums Oh and that 25 might get higher if I find more gigs to goto, I’ve been recommended a few gigs so if I like what I hear I might turn up to them to. The more the merrier
Update: Two more gigs added hehe
I like the photo of all your tickets, they look a bit like confetti, specially because they are upcoming gigs. I keep the stubs of most concerts and memorable things i have attended, but then again I think all my events together don’t reach the total of your recent project. Its awesome you get to attend to all these fun gigs.
Im glad you are having fun attending to all these gigs!
I’m quite sentimental about events I’ve been to, for all my gigs I keep them in a lovely tin box and hope one day i’ll actually remember what i’ve been (the blog should help!) the worse memory was when my mum threw away a folder containing years worth of setlists
all the big bands were there and all!
Definitely having fun at the gigs, but after the gig I’m just exhausted haha, and I’m always so damn determined to get my photos developed on the day, I have a few photos still lagging but i’ll upload them sometime! Thanks for reading and I hope my entries will be a lovely read for you
[...] get more of that at future gigs, so yes to free gigs at music stores! It will most likely bump my planned gig count a bit too hehe. Sorry I only uploaded 4 shots of today’s gig, trying to keep it minimum since [...]
I can’t tell you how amazingly fortunate you are, living in London. I live in a small town that is probably the polar opposite of London. Not only that, but I live in the land of bad music, the United States of America. There is so much I would give to live in the UK. I’m not remotely odd and my tastes are frowned upon here. :/
Strangely quite a lot of american bands are in these days, such as Okkervil River, Tilly and the Wall, Of Montreal and a whole host of bands, I’m sort of targeting all of them these days because they’re cheap to goto, and the venue’s are nice and tiny
